At Melbourne Cricket Ground: The first One Day International was also played here, on 5 January 1971, between Australia and England, on what had been scheduled as the fifth day of a Test; Australia won the 40-over match by 5 wickets. In the 1960–61 series, West Indies’ Joe Solomon was given out after his hat fell on the stumps while facing Richie Benaud; the crowd sided with the West Indies. The Centenary Test of March 1977 marked 100 years since the first Test: Derek Randall made 174, Rod Marsh a century, Dennis Lillee took 11 wickets, and David Hookes, in his first Test, hit five fours in a row off Tony Greig. Rick McCosker batted again with a fractured jaw. Australia won by 45 runs, the same margin as in 1877.
