- Sri Lanka’s 952 for 6 declared against India in 1997, the highest total in Test history, was made here; Sanath Jayasuriya scored 340.
- Muttiah Muralitharan has taken the most Test wickets (36) and ODI wickets (75) at the ground.
- It was the first ground in Sri Lanka, and the fourth in the world, to host 100 ODIs.
- It hosted the 2002 Champions Trophy final, the 2012 World Twenty20 final and a 2011 World Cup semi-final.
- Bangladesh’s 87 in 2005 is the lowest Test total here.
