History and famous moments
- The first Test at the Gabba was Australia against South Africa, 27 November to 3 December 1931.
- It was the first Australian venue to host a Twenty20 International.
- It hosted its first day/night Test, against Pakistan, on 15 December 2016.
- In 2021 India became the first Asian team to win a Test here, handing Australia their first defeat at the Gabba in 29 matches and 32 years.
- Michael Clarke’s 259 not out against South Africa in 2012 is the highest score at the ground.
- Richard Hadlee took 21 wickets in six innings here, the most by a non-Australian.
- The first match on the site was played on 19 December 1896, Parliament against The Press.
- Cricket’s first tied Test was played here in December 1960, Richie Benaud’s Australia against Frank Worrell’s West Indies.
- Queensland won their first Sheffield Shield here, beating South Australia in the March 1995 final.
- Ricky Ponting has the most Test runs at the ground (1,335).
