At Melbourne Cricket Ground: The first Test match was played here, in 1877. The first One Day International was also played here, on 5 January 1971, between Australia and England, on what had been scheduled as the fifth day of a Test; Australia won the 40-over match by 5 wickets. In the 1960–61 series, West Indies’ Joe Solomon was given out after his hat fell on the stumps while facing Richie Benaud; the crowd sided with the West Indies.
